We eat at Sha Tin 18 every few years including a meal taken here a couple months ago. On our most recent occasion we experienced more or less the same as we have when eating here in recent years. The restaurant ambience is the very best thing this restaurant has going for them. Tables are well-spaced, decor is tasteful and the seating area is relatively quiet. This is a very nice change from the crammed seating and loud conditions of restaurants you will have experienced throughout the city. It is what we like most about Sha Tin 18. As for service, the restaurant host was on his 'A Game' and did his job well during our recent meal here. However, the rest of waitstaff, as they have in the past, seemed quite inexperienced and unsure what to do at various times throughout our meal. This is not something you expect at expensive restaurants. As for food, everything was good but expensive for what was served. Peking Duck (First Course 1/2 size - HK$388) first served plate was excellent. Skin was crispy and the duck flavourful. Second plate served with pancakes was just ok. Most skin was greasy but the duck tasted fine. Overall, this was a good Peking Duck but could have been better. We also ordered Wok fried chicken with Chilli (HK$258). This was a good size portion and the chicken was fried well. Chilis were an attractive ingredient with good heat. Dish was served with peanuts and a small amount of spring onion, would have appreciated more to balance not only the colour but the flavours of the dish a bit more. Overall, this was a fair Szechuan style dish and a safe order if you fancy a hotter northern Chinese dish. Lastly, Yeung Chow Fried Rice (HK$238) tasted fine but priced about as high as you can possibly get away with for a rice dish. Serving size was enough for 2 people. Overall, we left yet again with mixed feelings about Sha Tin 18. It is a good restaurant and a place we would dine at regularly if the food and service were better aligned with the prices being charged. On the other hand, for visitors staying at the Hyatt Regency in Shatin, if you don't want to travel away from the hotel for dinner, you'll do fine eating here.

It is a great place to enjoy Cantonese food! Good taste for every dish, the most impressive dishes are the Peking duck and red dates baked cake! Especially the red dates cake is of such a nice taste that you can’t try in anywhere else!

4 stars are given to the foods and the creativity. Highly recommend "Peking Duck" and "BBQ Pork". Their desserts are lovely especially Osmanthus cake. The only downside is its inconvenient location.
