::We recently had a nice dinner at Le Bistro Winebeast on Thompson Rd. two weeks ago. This is a lesser known but high quality French restaurant and wine retailer in Wan Chai. Note: Call in advance for reservations if visiting during peak lunch and dinner periods. They can be rather full at those times. Further, there is no dress code from what we have found at Le Bistro Winebeast. Patrons dress in anything from shorts, t-shirts and sneakers to business casual. During our recent meal, we enjoyed the Signature Rossini, a fillet prepared medium-rare and topped with pan-seared foie gras and on this occasion, slivers of white truffle. This was a good Rossini. Beef was good quality, foie gras, truffle and jus tasted just fine. Steak lovers will enjoy this order. We also had the Signature seared tuna, which was well seared and tasted very good on its own. Accompanying foie gras and fruits and raspberry vinegar, were a nice touch, even if perhaps better eaten separately to the tuna. Again, this was a very good order worth repeating. For dessert we much enjoyed their chocolate fondant with chestnut cream and vanilla cream. This was a richly flavoured fondant with delicious sauce, well complemented by the ice-cream. Chestnut cream was nice but no really necessary. Service at this meal was a bit spotty at times. They were catering to a full house and seemed stretched to provide coverage we have experienced in the past. In the end, nothing that would keep us from returning to Le Bistro Winebeast, just something they could do better with in the future.

::French restaurants come and go. Many open with great fanfare. But Le Bistro Winebeast never disappoints. Best value for money around with a 4-course dinner at $458. Where else could you have that?

::Nice cosy interior at the second floor. If you have the choice avoid seating in the middle as it can get a bit noisy. The little french tapas that you can eat with a glass of wine are great. The main courses are very good as well as the deserts. The wine selection is original and very good. The service is perfect.
