  Chater Garden is a small public space located just outside the Central MTR Station (Exit J2), next to the Legislative Council Building. Here you can find a bit of green space with a paved walkway lined with thirty species of trees called the 'Tree Walk' There is also a small water pool area with a few park benches. However, the majority of Chater Garden is a clear paved area, which serves as a gathering point for maids during their free day off (Sundays and public holidays). It is sometimes the scene of rallying points for local protests as well. Historically, the Chater Garden space was originally used by the Hong Kong Cricket Club until 1975. It was opened to the public then and named after Sir Paul Chater. Overall, there is nothing wrong with Chater Garden but there are better city park areas for visitors to seek out in this part of the city. The very good Hong Kong Park is no more than 5 minutes walk away.
